1/22/2024 0 Comments Dia de reyes 2021Other community activities of the Tres Reyes include preparing hot chocolate, cleaning, labeling the gifts, delivering the toys, and organizing kids' activities. We invite volunteers, agency partners, and staff to participate by helping with setup or managing the logistics before, during, and after the celebrations. We are grateful that Tres Reyes has become an inclusive cultural celebration for Latinos and non-Latinos. The number of kids we serve increases yearly, becoming an authentic tradition in Dane County. It remains our goal to make families happy by distributing gifts.This celebration unifies generations, fosters bonds within families, and brings back memories of children and parents. At Centro, we acknowledge our organizational role of enhancing cohesion, joy, and love among families. Through this celebration, Centro honors the roots of the community while keeping traditions alive and celebrating the young ones. It remains a significant cultural identity of Latin Americans' heritage and traditions. Three Kings Day is one of the special days many Latin American Families celebrate. Unfortunately, there won’t be any festivities or parades this year due to COVID-19, but we will still have our delicious Roscón to celebrate with and memories from past years.Despite the endless challenges that human beings face, it is critical to celebrate with great joy whenever happy moments come. Whoever gets the piece of roscón with the king wins and will have good luck for the rest of the year. P er tradition, a tiny plastic-wrapped king figurine (or fava bean) is baked inside each roscón. This cake is baked in the shape of a crown, decorated with dried fruit, and filled entirely with fresh nata (whipped cream) or chocolate truffle cream. This cake is pure heaven and although most eat it for breakfast on January 6, it can also be enjoyed throughout the Christmas/Epiphany season. In addition to the parade and other festivities, you must celebrate with the traditional dessert Roscón, aka Three Kings Day cake. In addition to common parade themes, Spain goes the extra mile by even including camels and other barnyard animals to reenact when the men traveled from the east to reach Bethlehem to see the infant Jesus. The parades are similar to the Macy’s Day parade with music, dancers, floats, and acrobats. The Magi has come! Since moving overseas to Madrid, we have found that the festivities begin on December 24 and end on January 6 with Los Reyes Magos, the Three Wise Kings. As Americans start to pack up their Christmas decorations, Spaniards continue to celebrate the holiday season beyond Christmas and the New Year.
